The District Science Centre, Gulbarga is a constituent unit of National Council of Science Museums, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Govt. of India. The main objective of the council is to popularise science among the students in particular and general public at large through non-formal methods of education. Interactive exhibits are installed inside the galleries as well as outdoors. The visitor can operate these exhibits and understand scientific principle through these exhibits.
The Head quarters of National Council of Science Museums at Kolkata. There are 27 Science Centres under the Council. National level Centres located at Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkotta and New Delhi. Under each National level Science Museums, there are regional, sub-regional and Dist. Science centre/museums. District level units are activity oriented centres. Of late Council also runs Digital Planetariums. Conventional opto-mechaical Planetariums is located at Regional Science centre, Nagpur and Regional Science centre, Calicut. Planetariums with digital technology are started at Siliguri, Dharmapur, Tirulelveli and Gulbarga.
Dist. Science Centre, Gulbarga is the only District level Science Museum in Karnataka and it is under the administrative control of Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum, Bangalore, which is South Zone head quarters of National Council of Science Museums. This Centre was inaugurated on 6th January 1984. The Centre has large number of exhibits spread among Fun Science, Electronics gallery and Science Park. Apart from the gallery we also conduct various educational extensional activities such as Mobile Science Exhibition, Sky observation programme, Science Show / Demonstration Lectures, Hobby Courses, Teachers training Programmes, Science Quiz Contests, Science Fair, Electronic Fair, Science Seminar, Popular Science Lectures, Community training Programmes and other Collaborative educational Programmes.
At present centre has following facilities:-
Fun Science, Electronics gallery, Science Park, 3D Theatre, Digital Planetarium & Telescope for observing the night sky. We are in the process of adding Prehistoric Park and a new gallery on popular science. A new administrative block is under construction, after which we will develop another gallery in the existing office area.
Entry fee details are as under: -
· Science centre is kept open on all the days of the year except two days; ie., Holi & Deepavali days, between 10.30am - 6.00pm.
ENTRY FEE TO THE SCIENCE CENTRE
· Rs. 5/- per head for general public and Rs.3/- per head for organized students / college group along with teachers /lecturer escort.
ENTRY FEE FOR 3D THEATRE
· Rs. 10/- per head for general public and Rs.5/- per head for organized students / college group along with teachers /lecturer escort.

ENTRY FEE FOR DIGITAL PLANETARIUM
· Rs. 12/- per head for general public and Rs.5/- per head for organized students / college group along with teachers /lecturer escort.
Show Timings: 11.00am, 12noon, 1.00pm, 3.00pm, 4.00pm, 5.00pm
Organised school and colleges students may avail package tour to the science centre at Rs. 13/- per head.
Science centre provides membership to the students, teachers, Family etc. An identity card will be issued to a member / member institution. Fee structure is as under.
§ Students membership per year – Rs. 50/-
§ Teacher membership per year – Rs. 100/-
§ Individual adult membership per year – Rs. 100/-
§ Family membership (for a family of five members) per year – Rs.250/-
§ Institutional membership (for schools/college) per year- Rs.1000/-
§ Other Institutions / Corporate membership per year - Rs.5000/-
